Match Report

Llangeinor 1 - 0 Ely Rangers

Sat 25th oct 2008

This was a big game for llan afer last weeks home defeat. Ely were unbeaten so far in the league this seaon so a tough game was expected. In a competitive opening period Ely forced a couple of corners which were well deat with by Steve John in the Llan goal. Llan also created a few half chances before a quality ball in from the left flank by Ryan Blanche put the Ely defence under pressure and Kevin Kelland forced the Ely centre half to head into his own net. Llan used this lead as a spring board, and both Keland and Craig Davies should have put Llan out os sight by half time. H.T. 1 - 0

In the second period Ely played some quality football and in chasing the equaliser they left some gaps at the back. Llan worked hard to get the all important second goal, but failed at the final hurdle. The Llan back 4 of Craig Hopkins, Ryan Matthews, Richy Taylor and man of the match Chris Hinam were immense and Steve John pulled out some top draw saves when called into action. Anthony Elwood, and Carl Pugh dominated the middle of the park allowing Craig Davies to show his first class quality. Young Kyle Owen sruggled to pick up the pace of the game and was replaced on 50 minutes by Josh Ellis. Elwood was replaced 5 minutes later by Damian Barnard and his pace proved a problem for the Ely Defence. Kevin Kelland ploughed a lone furrow up front and Ryan Blanche worked back to help the defence when needed. Despite some late pressue from Ely, Llan held out well and were pleased when the final whistle went.
