Match Report

Pentwyn Dynamo 2 - 2 Llangeinor

Sat 16th Aug 2008

Llangeinor opened their season in dynamic style when after just 4 minutes when one of their 10 debutants Carl Pugh was dismissed for a goal line hand ball. In reallity referee Craig Greenstock had no alternative. To the rescue came the only player in the side who had played for Llan previously Steve John saved to his left to keep the score at 0 - 0. Llan had to do some quick reorganising, and it meant that up front Kevin Kelland had to work on his own. The back 4 of Craig Hopkins, Carl Lewis, Damian Roberts & Chris Hinam worked really well as a unit and dealt with everything that Pentwyn could throw at them. Pentwyn took the bit betrween their teeth and put us under immense pressure for the next 20 minutes, having a goal ruled out for offside and spurning a couple of good chances. Slowly Llan settled into the game and created one of two chances of their own. Rhys Owen, Anthony Elwood, Craig Davies and Ryan Blanche held the middle of the park and competed well, working back when they had to.

H.T. 0 - 0

In the second period 10 man Llangeinor opened the sharper and a good ball in from the left saw Anthony Elwood getting infront of the keeper at the near post to head Llan into the lead after just 4 minutes of the half. The travelling supporters were warmed by this, and Llan seemed to gain in confidence. On 56 minutes Elwood was replaced by youngster Damian Barnard. Pentwyn continued to try and make the exta man pay off and they had plenty of the ball but failed to get it into the danger area. On 66 minutes Rhys Owen was replaced by 16 year old Josh Ellis another Llan debutant making his Welsh League debut as well. Josh showed fine control and vision, and will be a great asset to Llan in the coming months. In the 77th minute Pentwyn finally made the breakthrough. When they equalised from 8 yards out. Llan were not fazed by this and immediatly came close when Damian Barnard was put through and chose to cross when he should have taken on the shot. Within a few more minutes Llan were back in front when Craig Davies picked up the ball wide on the right, he jinked inside and rode a heavy tackle turning onto his left peg he struck a curling shot which the keeper could only push into the net. Just a minute later Llan were reduced to 9 men when Craig Hopkins was given a red card for something said off the ball. Llan had their backs to the wall in the closing few minutes and Pentwyn pulled level 2 minutes from time with a fine passing move down the right and good finish from their number 6. All in all Llan can be pleased with their performance, a special mention must go to Kevin Kelland who was outstanding up front on his own and covered every blade of grass closing down their back 4. Manager Neil Foulkes was pleased with the outcome, and would have wondered what could have been achieved with 11 men on the park.!!
